Course Overview
The Construction Worker Safety course from the American Institute of Safety Professionals provides worker-level safety awareness specifically for construction workers at every experience level. This is the construction-specific companion to the General Worker Safety course: while that course covers universal safety awareness, this course addresses the specific hazards that construction workers face every day: falls from elevation, struck-by from falling and flying objects, caught-in from excavation and equipment, electrocution from power lines and temporary wiring, tool and equipment hazards, and the dynamic, constantly changing construction environment.
The curriculum covers Focus Four awareness for workers (fall, struck-by, caught-in, electrocution hazards and personal protective actions), construction PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, high-vis, safety boots, gloves, fall protection), tool safety (hand and power tools, inspection, guarding), scaffolding and ladder awareness for users, housekeeping on construction sites, hazard reporting, emergency response on construction sites, new worker orientation awareness, and the active safety participation expected of every construction worker. All training is delivered 100 percent online through the American Institute of Safety Professionals LMS. Upon completion, graduates receive a certificate, wallet card, and transcript, employer-verifiable at amiosp.com/student-verifications.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completing this program, participants will be able to:
- Recognise Focus Four hazards personally: identifying fall, struck-by, caught-in, and electrocution exposures in their own daily work and taking the personal protective actions that prevent injury.
- Use construction PPE correctly: hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, safety-toe boots, gloves, hearing protection, and fall protection equipment with proper inspection and use.
- Use tools safely: hand and power tool inspection, guarding awareness, proper technique, and the personal tool safety practices that prevent lacerations, eye injuries, and struck-by incidents.
- Maintain housekeeping on construction sites: material storage, debris management, cord routing, walkway clearance, and the housekeeping that prevents the trip and slip injuries common on active construction sites.
- Report hazards actively: identifying and reporting unsafe conditions, near-misses, and injuries through the project’s reporting system, understanding that reporting is protected and essential for prevention.
- Respond to construction emergencies: evacuation procedures, assembly areas, first aid awareness, and the emergency actions expected of every construction worker.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
This training program is intended to provide entry-level general industry workers information about their rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint as well as how to identify, abate, avoid and prevent job related hazards on a job site. The training covers a variety of general industry safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter at a work site. Training should emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, not OSHA standards.
