Course Overview
Forklift Safety and Safe Operations Training from the American Institute of Safety Professionals prepares operators and safety personnel to operate powered industrial trucks per OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.178 and safely. It helps learners recognize and control hazards involving the tip-overs of loads, unstable and colliding loads, interaction with pedestrians, inclines, and rough terrain. Training covers pre-operation checklists, starting and stopping safeties, load handling, stacking and unstacking, and operating within load limits. It teaches load and swivel clamp control. Safe forklift operating skills in turning, speed control, and visibility are taught along with the safe operation of powered lift attachments. It talks about workplace safety to include control and protective performance standards for travel paths, work and refuse storage, overhead space, and pedestrians. It describes the protective duties of the driver related to PPE, compliance with safety rules, and reporting unsafe conditions. Supervisors and Managers learn to guide unsafe performance of operators, OSHA compliance, safety program and policy gap analyses, operator performance documentation, and the safety training and record-keeping OSHA standards. Graduates of the program will have skills in forklift operation and will understand how to prevent and respond to forklift-related incidents.
