Course Overview
The Oil and Gas Well Inspection course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals teaches students all federal safety and environmental regulations for offshore drilling operations from §250.400–250.405. This training guides professionals on how to inspect drilling rigs and offshore platforms safely, properly, and effectively. It teaches the safety and life-saving measures that must be taken to protect life and property, marine life, and valuable natural resources during drilling operations on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). The course teaches important inspection oversight responsibility, such as making sure the crown block safety device that prevents collisions of moving parts of the rig, which is checked weekly and operational checks are documented in the driller’s report. The course also covers safety regulations for drilling rig diesel engines and the importance of automatic and manual air intake shutoff systems to stop runaway engines and explosions. With practical samples and regulatory guidance, the students learn the compliance exceptions and how to demonstrate compliance in subpart G and offshore drilling safety standards. At the end of the course, students will be able to inspect wells professionally, eliminate safety setbacks, and provide complete documentation to show compliance with BSEE and OSHA standards. The program is designed to offer flexible online learning with a minimum instructional contact time of 8 hours. Most learners successfully complete the course within one month, allowing them to progress at their own pace while balancing professional commitments.
Examination
Candidates can take this exam through an assigned portal from the American Institute of Safety Professionals. A passing score is 70% or higher, and exam results are provided right after by email to the address provided. The exam is open-book, allowing candidates to validate their answers. Any candidates who do not pass have 1 month after their exam to go through the training materials and can take the exam 3 additional times.
