Course Overview
The Safety and Health Program course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals aims to explain OSHA §1926.20 General Safety and Health Provisions to Construction Managers, Supervisors, and Safety Personnel. This program clarifies the importance and how to develop and maintain proactive safety programs on construction sites. This program explain s the contractor’s obligation to ensure no laborer and no mechanic is required to work in unsanitary, hazardous, or unsafe conditions. Participants learn how employers initiate and maintain safety programs, including the inspection of job sites, equipment, and material, and the identification and control of unsafe conditions by competent persons to avert incidents. This course also covers the control of hazardous and unsafe machinery, tools, and materials, including tagging, locking, or removing from operation, and the importance of qualified employees operating powered equipment. Participants learn the wide applicability of OSHA Regulations to all workplaces in the 50 states, territories and offshore areas of the U.S., and how specific standards take precedence over general standards. Focus on what employers must do for each employee. This includes giving out personal protective equipment (PPE), training employees on hazard identification, training on hazard prevention, and treating each failure as a standalone violation. This course teaches learners how to prepare and develop effective safety and health programs, how to enforce the use of PPE, how to train employees, and how to sustain compliance to all regulations. This results in a safer workplace, minimized occurrence of injuries, and a positive working environment that encourages responsibility and constant improvement on all construction operations.

  • Utilize hazard abatement techniques and preventive measures to reduce the likelihood of accidents, injuries, and illnesses.
  • Differentiate between hazard identification, avoidance, and control measures, and OSHA standards, with an emphasis on prioritizing hazard prevention over mere compliance.
  • Apply the knowledge acquired during the training to real-life scenarios, making informed decisions to enhance safety practices at their job sites.
  • Collaborate with coworkers and supervisors to communicate potential hazards and actively participate in proactive safety measures.
  • Successfully participate in the training program, engaging in discussions, practical exercises, and assessments to reinforce learning.
Mode of Delivery
Participants will receive online training through Microsoft Teams and LMS. Courses are offered by accredited broadcasters and backed by expert instruction and official study materials. All assessments are conducted online and successful participants are awarded certificates that are accepted internationally.
Course Content

Training should emphasize on the following contents;

Mandatory Topics - 6 hours

1. Introduction to OSHA/Local Government Agencies – 1 hour: 

overview of the policies and regulations set by these organizations to ensure the health and safety of employees in the workplace. Covers the purpose and scope of OSHA or local government agencies, including its role in enforcing occupational safety standards, inspecting workplaces, and providing education and outreach to employers and employees.

2. Walking and Working Surfaces, including fall protection – 1 hour  

3. Exit Routes, Emergency Action Plans, Fire Prevention Plans, and Fire Protection – 1 hour 

4. Electrical – 1 hour

5. Personal Protective Equipment – 1 hour

6. Hazard Communication – 1 hour

Elective Topics - 2 hours

The trainer must present at least two hours of training on the following topics. At least two topics must be presented. The minimum length of any topic is one-half hour.

a) Hazardous Materials

b) Materials Handling

c) Machine Guarding

d) Introduction to Industrial Hygiene

e) Bloodborne Pathogens

f) Ergonomics

g) Safety and Health Program

h) Fall Protection

Optional Topics - 2 hours

Teach other general industry hazards or policies and/or expand on the mandatory or elective topics. The minimum length of any topic is one-half hour.

Training should emphasize the following contents;

Entry Requirements
This program follows global workplace health and safety standards, and is taught by industry experts. Successful students receive an American Institute of Safety Professionals accredited certificate which is recognized by several employers and regulatory bodies. Graduates receive a master certificate, course completion certificate (if applicable), an official transcript, a wallet card, and access to a professional safety network which promotes ongoing learning and career growth.
Program Duration
The program is designed to offer flexible online learning with a minimum instructional contact time of 8 hours. Most learners successfully complete the course within one month, allowing them to progress at their own pace while balancing professional commitments.
Examination
Candidates can take this exam through an assigned portal from the American Institute of Safety Professionals. A passing score is 70% or higher, and exam results are provided right after by email to the address provided. The exam is open-book, allowing candidates to validate their answers. Any candidates who do not pass have 1 month after their exam to go through the training materials and can take the exam 3 additional times.
