Course Overview
The Well Site Completion and Servicing Safety course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals has standard, citing OSHA §1910.120, describes preserving employees functions regarding hazardous waste operations and emergency response activities overtaken at well sites and other aligned locales. This regulation pertains to operations with workers who could possibly encounter hazardous materials while well completion, servicing or clean-up activities take place. This standard also relates to governmental or voluntarily ordered clean up activities mapped with control of hazardous waste sites, response activities when hazardous materials are released or could possibly release. Employers are needed to create site specific comprehensive safety and health programs as detailed in site characterization, hazard analysis and training for workers and emergency response programs. Workers at well sites need training to recognize and respond to chemical, biological and physical hazards, use personal protective equipment (PPE) for safe and effective decontamination. They also respond to emergency spills, explosions and toxic exposure. This regulation also includes waste treatment, storage and disposal (TSD) of hazardous waste which follow to protect workers and the environment. For locations that do not require an EPA permit, only hazard response provisions of paragraph (p)(8) apply. This standard helps to ensure that well site operations are done safely. We do this by reducing risks, implementing effective control measures, and being prepared for incidents involving dangerous materials. Protection of the workers’ health and safety is the primary objective and is done in compliance with federal environmental and federal and state occupational health regulations.

The training covers a variety of general industry safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter at a work site. Training should emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, not OSHA standards.
