The Certified Safety Officer (CSO) course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals (AMIOSP) dives into the details of occupational health and the systems of safety management along with the compliance of regulations for numerous industries. This course is designed based on international guidelines and best practices as laid out by OSHA regulations which include Hazard Communication standards (29 CFR 1910) Construction standards (29 CFR 1926) and ISO 45001:2018: Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. All assessments are conducted online and successful participants are awarded certificates that are accepted internationally.

Graduates receive a master certificate, course completion certificate (if applicable), an official transcript, a wallet card, and access to a professional safety network which promotes ongoing learning and career growth.
Program Duration
The program is designed to offer flexible online learning with a minimum instructional contact time of 8 hours. Most learners successfully complete the course within one month, allowing them to progress at their own pace while balancing professional commitments.
Examination
Candidates can take this exam through an assigned portal from the American Institute of Safety Professionals. A passing score is 70% or higher, and exam results are provided right after by email to the address provided. The exam is open-book, allowing candidates to validate their answers. Any candidates who do not pass have 1 month after their exam to go through the training materials and can take the exam 3 additional times.

This training program is intended to provide entry-level general industry workers information about their rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint as well as how to identify, abate, avoid and prevent job related hazards on a job site. The training covers a variety of general industry safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter at a work site. Training should emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, not OSHA standards.
