Course Overview
The Fire Safety for Managers and Supervisors course from the American Institute of Safety Professionals provides management-level fire safety training for the leaders who are accountable for fire prevention programmes, fire protection system readiness, and fire emergency response within their facilities and organisations. This is the management companion to the Fire Prevention Plans and Fire Protection course: while that course teaches the fire prevention plan requirements and fire protection system fundamentals, this course teaches how to govern the fire safety programme, lead fire wardens, manage fire protection system maintenance, conduct fire risk assessments, and lead the emergency response when fires occur.
The curriculum covers the manager’s fire safety responsibilities, fire risk assessment methodology, fire prevention programme governance (housekeeping, hot work, electrical, storage), fire protection system management (sprinklers, detection, alarms, extinguishers inspection/testing/maintenance oversight), fire warden programme management (selection, training, duties, drills), emergency response leadership (decision-making during fire events, evacuation command, fire department interface), regulatory compliance management (OSHA 1910.38/39, NFPA, local fire codes, fire marshal inspections), fire investigation leadership, insurance and business continuity considerations, and the fire safety culture that prevents fires through leadership rather than compliance alone. All training is delivered 100 percent online through Microsoft Teams and the American Institute of Safety Professionals LMS.
Upon completion, graduates receive a certificate, wallet card, and transcript, employer-verifiable at amiosp.com/student-verifications.
Learning Outcomes

Upon completing this program, participants will be able to:

  • Conduct fire risk assessments: identifying ignition sources, fuel sources, and the conditions that bring them together, evaluating fire protection adequacy, and prioritising fire prevention investments.
  • Govern the fire prevention programme: housekeeping standards, hot work permit management, electrical safety, flammable material storage, and the programme oversight that prevents fires from starting.
  • Manage fire protection systems: overseeing the ITM (inspection, testing, maintenance) programme for sprinklers, detection, alarms, and portable extinguishers, and ensuring system readiness at all times.
  • Manage the fire warden programme: selecting wardens, providing training, defining duties (sweep areas, guide evacuation, report to assembly), conducting drills, and evaluating warden performance.
  • Lead emergency response during fire events: evacuation decision-making, assembly and headcount, fire department interface, critical operations shutdown, and the command responsibility that managers carry during fire emergencies.
  • Manage fire regulatory compliance: OSHA 1910.38/39, NFPA codes, local fire codes, fire marshal inspections, and the compliance documentation that demonstrates programme adequacy.
