Course Overview
The Registered Safety Officer RSO course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals focuses on the basics of occupational safety according to OSHA 29 CFR Part 1926 Subpart C – General Safety and Health Provisions and prepares candidates to understand the basics of occupational safety. The course prepares safety officers, site supervisors, and operational leaders to manage and maintain workplace safety, execute accident prevention programs, and uphold federal safety regulations. Under accident prevention, the course teaches the legal and operational aspects of Section 107 of the contract work hours and safety standards act, emphasizing the overall contractor responsibility to provide a sanitary, safety, hazard-free workplace, and conditions. Attention is also on unremitting employer duties in safety §1926.20(b) which includes the establishment and maintenance of protective inspection programs, appointment of competent persons for site evaluation, and isolation or removal of non-compliant equipment. The trainees learn the jurisdiction legal OSHA standards that controls safety across the states, and U.S. OSHA safety territory §1926.20(c) to understand the multi jurisdiction enforcement of safety law. The course also covers the duties of an employee for compliance §1926.20(f) which directs employer duties that makes provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) harmless, and hazard training. In the end, this program will teach participants how to recognize and identify unsafe signal conditions, take the initiative to lead and implement corrective actions, take responsibility of compliance and enforcement, and build a positive and proactive safety culture in organizations to mitigate incidents and attain safety performance sustainability across all dimensions of business operations.

All assessments are conducted online and successful participants are awarded certificates that are accepted internationally.

Graduates receive a master certificate, course completion certificate (if applicable), an official transcript, a wallet card, and access to a professional safety network which promotes ongoing learning and career growth.
Program Duration
The program is designed to offer flexible online learning with a minimum instructional contact time of 8 hours. Most learners successfully complete the course within one month, allowing them to progress at their own pace while balancing professional commitments.
Examination
Candidates can take this exam through an assigned portal from the American Institute of Safety Professionals. A passing score is 70% or higher, and exam results are provided right after by email to the address provided. The exam is open-book, allowing candidates to validate their answers. Any candidates who do not pass have 1 month after their exam to go through the training materials and can take the exam 3 additional times.

This training program is intended to provide entry-level general industry workers information about their rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint as well as how to identify, abate, avoid and prevent job related hazards on a job site. The training covers a variety of general industry safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter at a work site. Training should emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, not OSHA standards.
