Course Overview
The Planning Workplace Emergencies course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals includes a basic overview of emergency preparedness while teaching safety compliance according to OSHA standards that include industrial environment regulations. This course includes OSHA standards on powered industrial trucks regulation (§1910.178) but expands to more general emergency planning for workplaces. It identifies the importance of preventive planning, risk assessment, and response planning for emergencies related to fire, equipment and operation. Course participants understand how powered industrial trucks are designed, maintained, and operated so as to not allow emergency provoking fire and mechanical failures. The course identifies the importance of compliance with ANSI B56.1-1969 standards on equipment, approved labeling and marking of trucks, and ensuring safe operation conditions through approved manufacturer modifications or attachments on trucks and any hydraulic equipment. It includes designing, training, and implementation of emergency action plans (EAPs) during emergencies, evacuation, and emergency service coordination. It focuses on risk avoidance through planning, communication, and safe use of machines to develop and implement a fully integrated emergency preparedness system.
After finishing the training, participants will be able to recognize risks in the workplace, ensure OSHA and ANSI standards are met, and promote a culture of emergency preparedness and response to safeguard people, property, and productivity.

- Knowledge of bloodborne pathogen exposure control: The program covers the latest best practices in bloodborne pathogen exposure control, including how to design and implement effective exposure control plans to minimize the risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
- Ability to identify and assess bloodborne pathogen hazards: Upon completion of the program, you will have the skills to identify and assess potential bloodborne pathogen hazards in the workplace, including exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.
- Understanding of the role of exposure control in injury prevention: The program covers the importance of exposure control in injury prevention, including how to implement effective exposure control plans to prevent exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
- Knowledge of exposure control plan development and implementation: The program covers the development and implementation of exposure control plans, including how to develop and implement exposure control policies, procedures, and training programs.
Mode of Delivery
Participants will receive online training through Microsoft Teams and LMS. Courses are offered by accredited broadcasters and backed by expert instruction and official study materials. All assessments are conducted online and successful participants are awarded certificates that are accepted internationally.
Course Content
Training should emphasize on the following contents;
- Introduction to bloodborne pathogens, including the types of diseases that can be transmitted through contact with contaminated blood or other bodily fluids.
- Identifying the sources and routes of bloodborne pathogen transmission in the workplace.
- Implementing standard precautions to prevent exposure, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the proper disposal of contaminated materials.
- Understanding the requirements of the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard and the employer's exposure control plan.
- Proper procedures for handling and disposing of potentially contaminated materials, including sharps and biohazardous waste.
- The importance of proper hand hygiene and the use of hand sanitizers.
- Procedures for responding to and reporting exposure incidents, including the availability of post-exposure medical evaluation and follow-up.
- The role of Hepatitis B vaccine and the importance of being vaccinated.
- The importance of regular training and education on bloodborne pathogens and exposure prevention.
- Final assessment and certification.
Entry Requirements
This program follows global workplace health and safety standards, and is taught by industry experts. Successful students receive an American Institute of Safety Professionals accredited certificate which is recognized by several employers and regulatory bodies.
Graduates receive a master certificate, course completion certificate (if applicable), an official transcript, a wallet card, and access to a professional safety network which promotes ongoing learning and career growth.
Program Duration
The program is designed to offer flexible online learning with a minimum instructional contact time of 8 hours. Most learners successfully complete the course within one month, allowing them to progress at their own pace while balancing professional commitments.
Examination
Candidates can take this exam through an assigned portal from the American Institute of Safety Professionals. A passing score is 70% or higher, and exam results are provided right after by email to the address provided.
The exam is open-book, allowing candidates to validate their answers. Any candidates who do not pass have 1 month after their exam to go through the training materials and can take the exam 3 additional times.

The training covers a variety of general industry safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter at a work site. Training should emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, not OSHA standards.
