Course Overview
The Construction Safety Management course from the American Institute of Safety Professionals develops the programme management competencies that construction safety managers, project HSE managers, and GC safety directors need to design, implement, and govern construction safety programmes on projects of any size. This is not a hazard recognition course (the 10-Hour and 30-Hour programmes cover that) and not a specialist technical course (Steel Erection Safety and similar courses cover that). This is the management course: how to build the site safety plan, manage subcontractor compliance, govern the permit-to-work system, run the Focus Four hazard programme, coordinate multi-employer safety requirements, interface with OSHA compliance officers, manage construction incident investigations, and measure and report construction safety performance.
Construction safety management is uniquely complex. A typical commercial or industrial construction project involves a general contractor managing a dozen or more subcontractors, each employing crews of different trades, arriving and departing at different project phases, working simultaneously in overlapping areas, governed by different corporate safety programmes, and all operating under the OSHA multi-employer worksite citation policy that can hold the controlling contractor responsible for exposures created by subcontractors. Managing safety across this multi-employer, multi-trade, multi-phase environment requires management competencies that go far beyond hazard recognition: site safety plan architecture, contractor pre-qualification and onsite compliance verification, activity hazard analysis governance, daily coordination meetings, permit management for simultaneous high-risk operations, and the performance measurement that demonstrates whether the programme is working.
The curriculum covers OSHA 29 CFR 1926 from the management perspective, site-specific safety plan development, contractor safety governance (pre-qualification, contract specifications, onsite monitoring, performance scorecards), Focus Four hazard programme management (falls, struck-by, caught-in/between, electrocution), multi-employer worksite compliance (creating, exposing, correcting, controlling employer roles), permit-to-work system management, construction incident investigation, safety meeting and safety stand-down management, construction safety performance metrics (TRIR, DART, EMR, leading indicators), OSHA inspection management on construction sites, and the project safety governance that integrates safety with schedule, cost, and quality management.
All training is delivered 100 percent online through Microsoft Teams and the American Institute of Safety Professionals Learning Management System (LMS). Learning Outcomes
Upon completing the Construction Safety Management program, participants will be able to:

- Conduct construction incident investigations: preserving evidence on active job sites, coordinating multi-employer witness interviews, identifying construction-specific root causes, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented and verified.
- Lead construction safety meetings: daily pre-task briefings, weekly toolbox talks, monthly safety committee meetings, and project-wide safety stand-downs with structured communication and measurable engagement outcomes.
