Course Overview
The Introduction to Occupational Safety and Health Training program offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionals (AMIOSP) is the first course in the safety and health curricula sequence. It introduces the core safety principles of the identification of hazards, control of exposures, and the safe and the monitoring of safe employee exposure to air contaminants as per the OSHA 29 CFR §1910.1000. It also teaches the control of hazardous exposure as prescribed in Tables Z-1, Z-2, and Z-3. It teaches the difference between Ceiling Values (C) and 8-hour Time Weighted Average (TWA) with respect to safe and unsafe levels of exposure during a standard work shift. It teaches the methods of assessing the risk of exposure to multiple contaminants. Learners are taught to access and use OSHA exposure tables, assess the air quality in a workplace, and determine the appropriate engineering and administrative safe exposure control measures. It also addresses the monitoring of safe exposure through the use of PPE, and the control of the workplace environment. This course teaches the hazard air contaminants to determine possible safe and unsafe work exposure and methods to create a safe workplace.
