Course Overview
The Safe Patient Handling course offered by the American Institute of Safety Professionalsteaches practical techniques for avoiding injuries related to moving patients and overcome musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). From OSHA reports, nursing aides and some healthcare workers are also called overexerted, due to postural awkwardness and repetitively lifting patients. Patient moving, transferring, repositioning, and daily care activities are also identified as causes. This training teaches patients lifting, moving, and repositioning without breaking bodily strain, using evidence-based methods and ergonomic practices. Participants will learn to identify high-risk tasks like chair transfers, bed repositioning, and confined mobility. The course also highlights the organizational and human costs associated with improper patient handling, such as chronic pain, absenteeism, disability claims, and turnover, which lead to billions of dollars in needless healthcare costs. Integrated with OSHA’s best policies and ergonomic rules, this course enables patient handling policy training programs to be more effective. This course realizes care for both patients and healthcare handlers. Perfect for nurses, caregivers, hospital safety officers, and healthcare administrators, this training fosters safety culture, improves staff retention, enhances quality of patient care, and ensures regulatory compliance. This course prepares students to develop and execute facility-wide patient handling policies that minimize injury and maintain a safe and healthy workforce in healthcare.
