Working Safety for Workers

The Working Safely for Workers course from the American Institute of Safety Professionals provides worker-level safety awareness for every employee in every industry. This is the worker’s companion to Managing Safely for Managers and Leading Safely for Directors: while those courses develop safety competency for leadership roles, this course develops the personal safety awareness and safe work practices that every individual worker needs to protect themselves and their colleagues.

The curriculum covers personal responsibility for safety, hazard recognition in daily work, safe work practices (standard procedures, pre-task planning, situational awareness), PPE use and care, reporting hazards and near-misses, worker rights and responsibilities, emergency response (evacuation, assembly, reporting), housekeeping, and the active participation in safety that transforms workers from passive rule-followers into engaged safety contributors. All training is delivered 100 percent online through the American Institute of Safety Professionals LMS. Upon completion, graduates receive a certificate, wallet card, and transcript, employer-verifiable at amiosp.com/student-verifications.

Upon completing this program, participants will be able to:

• Take personal responsibility for safety: understanding that safety is each worker’s individual responsibility alongside the employer’s obligation to provide a safe workplace.
• Recognise hazards in daily work: identifying the common hazards in their work environment (slips/trips/falls, struck-by, electrical, chemical, ergonomic) and the situational awareness that prevents exposure.
• Follow safe work practices: following established procedures, conducting pre-task planning, maintaining situational awareness, stopping work when conditions change, and the discipline that prevents the shortcuts causing most injuries.
• Use PPE correctly: wearing required PPE, inspecting before use, proper donning and doffing, care and maintenance, and reporting damaged or unavailable PPE.
• Report hazards and near-misses: knowing what to report (unsafe conditions, near-misses, injuries), how to report, and understanding that reporting is protected by law and essential for prevention.
• Respond to emergencies: knowing evacuation routes, assembly areas, alarm signals, and the emergency actions expected of every worker.
