Course Overview
The Electrical Safety for Managers course from the American Institute of Safety Professionals is the management-level companion to the Electrical Safety for Technicians and Supervisors course, designed specifically for operations managers, plant managers, safety managers, and EHS directors who are accountable for electrical safety compliance within their organisations but do not perform hands-on electrical work themselves. Managers do not need to know how to apply a lockout device — they need to know how to build, fund, staff, audit, and govern the electrical safety programme that ensures their technicians apply lockout devices correctly every time.
When an electrical fatality or serious arc flash injury occurs, OSHA does not investigate only the technician who made the error. OSHA investigates the programme: was an arc flash hazard analysis conducted? Was the NFPA 70E electrical safety programme documented and implemented? Were workers trained and qualified? Was the LOTO programme adequate and enforced? Were energised work permits properly authorised? Were electrical tools and PPE inspected and maintained? Were contractors held to the same electrical safety standards as employees? The answers to these questions determine whether the organisation faces citations in the thousands or penalties in the hundreds of thousands. The Electrical Safety for Managers course develops the programme governance competency that ensures the answer to every one of those questions is yes.
