Environmental Management Systems (EMS)

Upon completing this program, participants will be able to:

• Identify environmental aspects and their impacts: understanding the relationship between activities, products, and services (aspects) and the changes to the environment they cause (impacts), and determining which aspects are significant.
• Ensure environmental legal compliance: identifying applicable environmental legislation (Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, SPCC, state and local requirements), maintaining the legal register, and evaluating compliance periodically.
• Set environmental objectives and targets: measurable environmental improvement goals (emission reductions, waste minimisation, energy efficiency, water conservation) aligned with the environmental policy and significant aspects.
• Implement operational controls: procedures and controls for activities associated with significant environmental aspects, including supplier and contractor environmental management.
• Conduct environmental audits: internal EMS audits to verify conformity with ISO 14001, identify non-conformities, and drive corrective action and continual improvement.
• Integrate environmental management systems with safety management: combining ISO 14001 (environment) with ISO 45001 (safety) for an integrated HSE management system that manages environmental and safety risks through a single framework.
