Course Overview
The course Incident Investigation and Risk Management by the American Institute of Safety Professionals covers the strategies and methods used to identify, analyze, and control risks in the workplace to avoid accidents and improve safety performance. The program covers the principles of root cause analysis, regulatory compliance, and proactive risk management under OSHA standards (29 CFR 1904) , ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems and ANSI Z10. The programs guide the participants in incident investigation through various methods and techniques, such as the 5-Why Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to ensure that root cause of the problem is identified as opposed to the symptoms. The course deconstructs the process of evidence documentation, collection, and the legal aspects of compliance within the organization and the country. Other gaps of the course deal with the risk assessment in which learners prioritize and classify risks to the organization in relation to the control measures that are aligned with the hierarchy of controls: elimination, substitution, engineering, administrative, and personal protective equipment (PPE). Learners are equipped through case studies and practical exercises with the structuring of evidence and the development of corrective and preventive actions, to communicate with management and employees, and to ensure that the measures are taken to improve gaps in the management process. Instructing incident investigation along with active risk management helps participants learn to lessen workplace injuries, foster accountability, and improve operational effectiveness. In the end, the program allows safety professionals to forecast possible threats, take preventative measures, and cultivate a robust and well-adjusted safety management system.
