- Assess scaffold platforms: minimum platform width (20 inches for supported, 18 inches for suspended), maximum gap between planks (1 inch), maximum overhang (6–12 inches depending on plank size), scaffold-grade lumber requirements, and manufactured decking specifications.
- Apply scaffold fall protection requirements per §1926.451(g): the 10-foot trigger height, guardrail systems (top rail, mid-rail, toe board), personal fall arrest systems on suspended scaffolds, and the cross-bracing prohibition (cross-braces cannot serve as guardrails unless they meet the 38–45 inch height requirement).
