Course Overview
Learning Outcomes
Upon completing this program, participants will be able to:
- Recognise common workplace hazards: the hazard categories new workers are most likely to encounter (slips/trips/falls, struck-by, electrical, chemical, ergonomic, fire) and the basic awareness that prevents first-week injuries.
- Follow emergency procedures: evacuation routes, assembly areas, alarm recognition, shelter-in-place, emergency contacts, and the emergency response actions expected of every worker.
- Use PPE correctly: identifying required PPE for their work area, obtaining PPE, basic inspection before use, proper use, and the reporting procedure when PPE is damaged or unavailable.
- Report hazards and incidents: how to report unsafe conditions, near-misses, injuries, and illnesses through the organisation’s reporting system, and why reporting is protected by law.
- Understand worker rights and responsibilities: the right to a safe workplace, right to know about hazards, right to report without retaliation, and the worker’s responsibility to follow safety rules and report hazards.
